Internal and External Media Requests for Societies
Internal Media Requests
Internal media requests refer to requests for comment from University of Guelph-Humber or Humber Polytechnic students or staff. These may include, but are not limited to: societies, student clubs or groups, media (or other) students, etc.
If you receive a media request from an internal group, ask the following questions:
- Is this for a class project? Will it be published? Where and when?
- Can you review/approve the copy before it’s published?
- If the request is from a student group, is the group approved/sanctioned by U of GH or Humber Polytechnic?
- How will you provide your quote: email, phone, or in-person?
External Media Requests
External media requests refer to requests for comment from any media outlets outside of the University of Guelph-Humber. If you receive a media request from an external outlet, ask the following questions:
- Who is this for? Do I know this publication? Are they legitimate / endorsed / approved?
- What is the nature of the interview or request?
- Is this relevant to me individually or the society I am part of?
- Is this an overall U of GH student question?
- If I am doing an interview, how best should I do this? Email, phone, or in-person?
- What option is going to be best for me? I want to ensure my quote is accurate and that I have time to give it some thought before I answer.
- Am I being clear and transparent that I am a U of GH student in a society executive position, and not representing the University itself?
