Elena Merenda has been appointed Assistant Program Head of Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber.
Ms. Merenda, who has been teaching at UofGH since 2013, begins her appointment on Dec. 14.
“Ms. Merenda brings an impressive skillset to this position,” says Dr. Nikki Martyn, Program Head of ECS. “She has extensive work and volunteer experience with children and brings a very hands-on approach to the profession. I’m excited to continue working with her in this new role.”
After completing her BAS at the University of Guelph-Humber, Ms. Merenda went on to a Master’s in Early Childhood Studies at Ryerson University. She specializes in the care and education of children with special needs, and the effects of losing a parent on childhood development. Ms. Merenda has been teaching at Humber College since 2012, and at UofGH since 2013, where she teaches classes in curriculum development, working with children with diverse needs, and others.
“I’m looking forward to my time as Assistant Program Head,” says Ms. Merenda. “Working with children brings with it many challenges and opportunities, and I want to do my best to prepare our students for this line of work.”
Ms. Merenda has a BAS from the University of Guelph-Humber, an MA in Early Childhood Studies from Ryerson University, and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at Western University in Educational Leadership. She is a Registered Early Childhood Educator.
