Indicators of Success

The following list outlines some ways to determine if your society is achieving success. Take a look to determine which areas your society is doing well in, and which areas you can continue to improve.

Goals and Objectives

  • Members understand the purpose of your society.
  • Your mission statement is up-to-date.
  • Executives and general members understand what goals you hope to reach this semester.

Membership

  • Membership is stable or growing.
  • Few members drop out.
  • Recruitment of new members is well organized and thought-out.
  • Members are informed about what is going on with the society.
  • Executives are familiar with the Society Guidelines.

Meetings

  • Meetings are held regularly.
  • Meetings have a structure.
  • An executive member takes meeting minutes for documentation of the meeting.
  • Society business is discussed and members are engaged in the conversation.

Leadership

  • Executive members have learned leadership techniques.
  • A variety of people provide leadership for the group.
  • Executive members fulfill their full one-year terms from April 30 – May 1.
  • All executive positions have applications submitted each year.
  • Communication methods, such as a newsletter or social media sites, have been established and are used regularly.

Finances

  • All society purchases are approved ahead of time by your Student Life Advisor.
  • Records are kept of all approved purchases.
  • Reimbursement meetings are scheduled with your Student Life Advisor in a timely manner following each event or activity.

Events

  • Events are planned with the needs of the members in mind.
  • Activities and events are well attended.
  • Members have the opportunity to suggest news event ideas.
  • Volunteers assist with event execution.

Learning 

  • Members can identify that they have learned by participating in the society.
  • Members learn to work cooperatively.
  • Executives and general members can identify skills that are transferable to their careers after university.
