Get Ready for Your Placement or Internship

We build hands-on work experience into every program at the University of Guelph-Humber. We do this through placements and internships that let you apply the skills you learn in the classroom, test drive roles and industries before you graduate, and meet key players in your field.

Some placements and internships begin as early as your first year, depending on your program. Here are some key placement and internship requirements to help you get ready.

Transfer and International Students

If you are a transfer or international student with questions about the placement requirements in your program and how they apply to you, please contact your Field Placement Coordinator.

Give yourself enough time

Reach out to your Field Placement Coordinator a full semester before your placement begins. You may need to get additional vaccinations or tests (e.g., Hepatitis A and B, TB) for certain placements. Class visits and information sessions will be available to you prior to the start of placement. You can book an individual appointment with your Field Placement and Career Services Coordinator to help you prepare for placement.

Apply early for a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)

If your placement involves vulnerable groups, like children, the elderly, and/or people with disabilities, you may need to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening. It is recommended that you allow at least 8 - 12 weeks from the time you apply to receive a VSS. If a VSS is required for your placement or internship, you cannot start until the VSS is completed. If you apply late, you may not be able to complete the required number of hours for your internship or placement course.
