After fielding entries from all across the University of Guelph-Humber campus, winners have been announced in Media Studies’ Force of Nature photo contest. The contest asked entrants to capture the power, beauty and grace of the natural world, and a selection committee made up of Media Studies’ faculty chose among the photos for an exhibition in UofGH’s art gallery.
“If a picture is worth a thousand words, the first ever photography contest and show spoke volumes about the creativity, talent and communication skills of media students at the University of Guelph-Humber,” says Jerry Chomyn, program head, Media Studies. “This was a true celebration of visual communication.”
Each semester, Media Studies partners with the students of the Business class Event Management to curate an exhibition in the gallery, but this was the first year they decided to hold a competition. At a gala event in early March, artists and appreciators gathered to view the winning photos. The photographers for the winning entries received a license for image editing software and were awarded a gift card for the Humber bookstore.
“It’s important that we not only teach communication, but celebrate excellence in the art and craft,” says Prof. Chomyn.
The semi-finalists and winners of the Force of Nature photography contest are available for viewing in the UofGH art gallery.
