Pursuing a graduate school Business degree just got simpler for University of Guelph-Humber (U of GH) students.

U of GH students have increased and direct access in applying to the University of Guelph’s (U of G) MBA program through a new pathway launched on Jan. 20, 2025.

“We wanted to create an opportunity for students going into graduate school and to create more alignment with the University of Guelph because our students are also technically University of Guelph students,” U of GH Business Chair Karey Rowe said.

Typically, to be admitted into an MBA program, students require significant work experience, Rowe said. However, most U of GH students attend right out of high school, leading them to have little real-world experience. But with this agreement, that work experience criterion is waived, giving U of GH students an advantage in being admitted to the program.

“This could mean that in five years, a student could literally have a degree [from the University of Guelph], a diploma [from Humber Polytechnic], plus an MBA,” Rowe said of the credentials a student would gain from completing an undergraduate degree at U of GH and from entering U of G’s MBA program.

There are also “substantial” scholarships students can earn by hitting a certain grade point average – another appealing benefit to interested students.

In fact, all students, not just in the Business program, can apply to the MBA program, as long as the minimum requirements are met and prerequisite classes are taken.

“It’s not just [offering] the opportunities to prepare for the world of work. It’s also that there are other options, and we’re expanding what life looks like after graduation,” he said. “We’re trying to create pathways for our students and truly looking at their readiness [for the workforce].”

Fourth-year students at Guelph-Humber can now apply for the Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters of the University of Guelph’s MBA program.
