Larissa Kostevskii and her daughter, Nicole
Larissa Kostevskii had been working for more than 10 years when she realized she wanted to go back to school. Trained as an early childhood educator, Kostevskii had spent her time working in Early Learning Centres, and had eagerly pursued extra training to provide support to children with special needs. Still, eventually, she decided she wanted more.
While continuing to work at the Humber Child Development Centre, where she’d been employed since 2000, Kostevskii began taking classes at UofGH part-time.
“I knew that I wanted to expand my knowledge, so, with the encouragement of my manager, I enrolled in the University of Guelph-Humber’s Early Childhood Studies program,” she said.
“I really would have liked to start this degree earlier, but I told myself that it’s never too late to start. Besides, this profession is changing on an ongoing basis, so doing my degree is one of the best ways to keep up with the research.”
On Thursday, Feb. 22, Admission Services will co-host the Early Childhood Studies Transfer Information Night on UofGH campus in Toronto at 7 p.m.
Participants can learn about study options, course curriculums, course delivery, the application process, transfer credit and important deadlines. Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with current students, staff and faculty, and see the campus first-hand.
Students considering transferring to the University of Guelph-Humber are also encouraged to attend Admit Me! on Feb. 28, where attendees have the opportunity to bring their official transcripts and any supporting documentation for on-the-spot admission advising and assessment.
Kostevskii found that when she first began exploring that campus after years away from the post-secondary environment, UofGH quickly felt like home.
“I love that it’s quite a small place, so I’ve been able to develop great relationships with my professors — I think that’s helped me.”
