Cal Millar retired as a general assignment reporter from the Toronto Star in 2004 after a career in the newspaper business which began in the early 1960s and spanned nearly four decades. Starting as an intern from high school which led to a full time job at a Hamilton radio station, he gained experience at the Peterborough Examiner, Chatham Daily News and Windsor Star before joining the staff of the Toronto Telegram. When that newspaper closed in 1971, he was one of 62 employees from the Telegram who founded the Toronto Sun. After 13 years with the tabloid, he moved to the Star where he concentrated on spot news and crime coverage. An article he wrote in 1983 led to the formation of Crime Stoppers in Toronto and has authored a number of books, including two which explain how Crime Stoppers has expanded to a worldwide crime solving network.
