As Program Head of Media Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber, Kathy Ullyott plays a lead role in developing and overseeing curriculum for approximately 800 students in five areas of media specialization: journalism, visual communications, digital communications, public relations and media media business. She teaches third- and fourth-year courses, and developed and teaches the fourth-year capstone course, in which 180 students from all specializations come together to create a multi-platform project called Emerge, which includes three magazines, a one-day public media conference and a national student media awards program.
Kathy came to Guelph-Humber in 2013 with a broad background combining teaching (University of Guelph-Humber, Humber College and Ryerson University), with media practice. Prior to joining Guelph-Humber she won numerous national awards as the editor-in-chief of Homemakers Magazine, executive editor of Canadian Living Magazine and managing editor of Flare magazine. She has also written for a variety of publications and news outlets including the Canadian Press, with a four-year sojourn into public relation relations practice. At Continental Go-lin-Harris (now Weber Shandwick) she was an account team leader overseeing accounts including Xerox Canada Inc., Levi Stauss and Co., and the Canadian Red Cross. She holds a masters of arts degree in journalism from Western University and a bachelor of liberal arts degree in English Literature from the University of Saskatchewan
