Early Childhood Studies Placements

Students in the Early Childhood Studies program will complete 800 hours in the field, 101 placement days, depending on the nature and requirements of their various placement sites. Students will gain experience working with children ranging in age from infancy to 12 years old, in diverse and integrated settings.

1. Field Placement Application Form

All Field Placement Application forms will be sent to you via email. Once completed, you will submit it via email to your Field Placement Coordinator by the due date.

2. Required Documents for Field Placement

Criminal Reference Checks and Vulnerable Sector Screens

Apply for your Criminal Reference Checks (CRC) and/or Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) during the last week of May to ensure your CRC/VSS is valid for the entire academic year. CRC/VSS are completed in the area where you have a permanent residence. Please check your region for the application process. Some regions require a letter confirming a VSS is required for placement. If this is required, please connect with your Field Placement Coordinator and a letter will be put together for you.

Students who live in Toronto can contact their FPC for VSS Application information.

Immunization Clearance Cards

First-year students will be required to complete the Pre-Placement Health forms which will be sent to you via email. These forms must be completed and signed by your physician. This process will take several weeks to complete. It’s imperative to start the process in July to make sure you’re able to complete this part of the requirements.

Returning students will need to complete the Returning Student Health forms, along with a one-step TB test.

Once your forms are complete, you will need to connect with the Student Wellness & Accessibility Centre (swac@humber.ca) to have your forms reviewed. It’s important to let them know that you are a University of Guelph-Humber Early Childhood Studies student. Once your immunization package is cleared by the nurse, you will be issued an Immunization Clearance Card which you will then upload (front and back) to GHworks for approval.

Standard First Aid (AED) / CPR (Level C)

Training can be completed where you'd like as long as the certification meets our program requirements. Canadian Red Cross, Life Saving Society or St. John’s Ambulance are a few places you can book your certification.

Once certification is completed, upload your certificate to GHworks for approval.

3. Student Placement Document Information

Access to GHworks will be granted once you’ve registered for your placement courses.Prior to registration,  you will receive an email from your Field Placement Coordinator to your Gryph email with important information about required documents, due dates and steps to upload forms to GHworks.

4. Required Forms for Placement

Once students receive their partner information from their Field Placement Coordinator, they are required to complete the Partnership Agreement Documents with their designated partner.  These documents include:

  • Contact Information Form
  • Student Declaration of Understanding,
  • Partnership Agreement,
  • Pledge of Confidentiality,
