Gordon Bannerman

Dr. Gordon Bannerman has been an instructor in the Business program at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2017. Dr. Bannerman has taught British history at the London School of Economics (LSE), Dundee University, and King’s College London. He previously worked as a research assistant at LSE, a committee reporter at the UK Parliament, and research officer for The Letters of Richard Cobden project at the University of East Anglia. In the latter role, he is a named contributor to the four published volumes arising from the project. Dr. Bannerman has an extensive publication record of books, articles, and reviews, including the monograph “Merchants and the Military in Eighteenth-Century Britain” (2008). Dr. Bannerman is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

David Birkett

David Birkett has been teaching in the business program at the University of Guelph-Humber for twelve years. Since 2004, Birkett has been a financial consultant to the Toronto Region Board of Trade, preparing financial forecasts and funding options for major infrastructure projects. His main non-academic work experience was as Director of Budgets and Finance at the Regional Municipality of Halton from 1981 to 2004. He was directly responsible for Operating Budgets ($450m) and Capital Budgets and Forecasts ($1.1 b). He also managed an actively traded bond fund ($500m), maintained Halton’s AAA credit rating, managed bond issuance and developed strategies to finance development projects. Prior to this, Birkett was employed in the private sector as a Senior Investment Analyst at Sun Life, where he assessed the credit position of Canadian province and their major crown utilities. His professional affiliations include the Past Chairman of the Municipal Finance Officers Association of Ontario and member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants–Public Sector Accounting Liabilities Task Force.

Dr. Henk Brand has taught at the University of Guelph-Humber since 2010. Dr. Brand was a Business and Macro-Economist, ING-Bank, Head Office, Netherlands; Chair of the joint Graduate International MSc Program at the Leeuwarden Business School, Netherlands and the University of Glasgow Business School. Dr. Brand has lectured at: the European Summer School for Advanced Management; Gulf University for Science & Technology, Kuwait, where he was CMA Program Head; and in the CFA Program. Dr. Brand is a Certified Lecturer for the Securities & Investment Institute UK. He was also Dean of Marketing and Business Administration, Nahda University, Egypt, as well as former Adjunct Professor in the MSc Program, Curtain Graduate School of Business, Perth, Australia. Dr. Brand was also a visiting lecturer in Economics and Management at Albion College, Albion, Michigan, and a professional hockey coach in Europe.
