'Pathways': University of Guelph-Humber Career Management Certificate

Wondering which ‘Pathway’ is right for you after graduation? Graduate school? Law School? Teacher’s College? MBA? The World of Work? The possibilities are endless!

Put the wheels in motion by participating in ‘Pathways’, the University of Guelph-Humber’s Career Management Certificate. This program will help you to clarify your goals and prepare for your next steps.

More about the Program:
‘Pathways’ consists of four workshops including
:

a) Resume and Cover Letters
b) Life After Graduation
c) Job Search Strategies
d) Interview Skills

*Resume and Cover Letters is mandatory and includes completion of a one-on-one critique with a Career Centre staff person.

Each workshop is designed to provide information that will help to better prepare you for the world of work or further educational opportunities. To successfully complete the certificate, you must complete 3 of the 4 workshops, as well as attend one Career Event at the University of Guelph-Humber. To ensure that you are eligible to receive the certificate, you must sign the attendance form available at each session.

How will this Program Benefit Me?

  • Employers look favourably upon individuals who actively manage their career planning process.
  • You will receive a certificate upon completion of the program that can be used as a tool in your portfolio or for self-marketing purposes.
  • You will learn valuable skills for job search and graduate school application as well as how to effectively showcase your own accomplishments.
  • Offers an opportunity for you to engage in your career planning process in a proactive way.
  • Enables you to meet Guelph-Humber students and staff, a valuable networking opportunity.

How long does it take to complete the certificate?
Each workshop is approximately one hour in length. You are required to bring a copy of your resume and cover letter to the Resume/Cover Letter workshop, so some additional preparation may be involved. Guelph-Humber Career Events typically run for 2-4 hours. So, in total, the certificate will take approximately 10 hours to complete! A small amount of time when you consider the pay-off (perhaps a job offer or acceptance to grad school!). You can begin the certificate at any point in your degree and start with whatever workshop is available at that time.
