Cindy received a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto. Areas of practice have included corrections, child protection and child advocacy. Individual therapy focus has been sexual and physical abuse of children, domestic violence, and separation and divorce issues. Cindy is the field placement co-ordinator of the Family & Community Social Services Program at the University of Guelph-Humber. Cindy also has a private practice, which includes individual, couple and family counselling, bereavement, critical incident stress management and mediation. |

Cinda Gault earned her Ph.D. in English from York University in 2003. She also holds an M.A. in English from the University of Guelph and an M.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto. Her doctoral dissertation, Female and National Identities: Laurence, Atwood, and Engel, 1965-1980, focusses on Canadian women writers who came to publishing prominence during the Canadian nationalist and second-wave feminist movements. Recent work also includes maternity and language in Alice Munro and William Faulkner. |

Carl Hassanali is the current Program Head of the University of Guelph-Humber’s Computing program, as well a faculty member in the Wireless and Telecommunications Technology programs in the School of Applied Technology at Humber College. He graduated with a PhD from York University and has taught in the Distributing Computing Program at the University of Guelph-Humber since its inception. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists and holds the Professional Physicist designation (P.Phys).
Carl has been actively involved in the teaching profession for more than 20 years at both the college and university levels where he has taught a variety of courses including mathematics, physics, fibre optics, advanced telecommunications, wireless systems, practical physics, communications systems, and electronics. |

Dr. Jim Higginson received his BA (Fine Arts) from York University, his MBA from City University, and his Executive Doctor of Management from Case Western Reserve University. He specializes in teaching marketing, marketing communication and entrepreneurship courses. Jim has extensive experience in marketing communications as an owner of a sales promotion agency and owner and president of a direct marketing agency. Over the past several years, Jim has worked closely with Humber serving on advisory committees and instructing at the post-graduate level. Currently he serves as president of Marcount Consulting Inc., a marketing management consulting organization in Toronto. |

| Biography: |
Professor Hyder Khoja has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and completed his graduate studies at the University of Illinois, Chicago. After graduation, he has worked in several industries as a professional engineer.
Prof. Khoja has been teaching at Humber College since September of 1981, where he has developed and taught a wide variety of courses in Electronics, Computer Engineering and Wireless departments. These include Analog and Digital Systems, R.F Design, Networking Technologies, Data and Broadband Communications and Fiber Optic Applications.
Prof. Khoja has also designed, developed and delivered industrial seminars and training programs for employees at IBM, Nortel, Delphax Technologies, Allied Signal Aerospace, Electrosonic, and others, through the Business and Industry division of Humber College. His current interests include high-speed broadband networks and applications of SONET in packet-switching. He is currently teaching Principles of Telecom, Computer Network, and Broadband Communication courses at the University of Guelph-Humber. |

Georges Livanos is a Professional Engineer and program coordinator of the
Electronics Engineering Technology program at Humber College. He teaches Digital Signal Processing for the Computing Co-op program at the University of Guelph-Humber. George holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Lakehead University and a Master of Engineering Science degree from the University of Western Ontario. He has 8 years industrial experience as an engineer. Prior to obtaining his Bachelor's degree, George was a technologist, with a diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from Humber College and 5 years experience in medical instrumentation. Other courses George has taught include Image Processing, Photonics, and Fibre Optics. His current interests are software-defined radio, spectral analysis of signals, and challenges in teaching heavily mathematical courses. |

Tanner Mirrlees holds a BA and MA (English and Theatre Studies) from the University of Guelph. He earned his PhD (Communication and Culture) from the joint program in Communication and Culture, York University and Ryerson University, in 2008, where he was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal. Tanner teaches courses on global media studies, mass communication, technology and culture, and new media. His current research examines the popularization of geopolitics by privately and publicly co-produced entertainment. He is writing a book on U.S. foreign communication and cultural policy and war-themed media products; it will be published by the University of British Columbia Press. |

Gabrielle Pitt holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, an honours Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Exceptionality in Human Learning, and a Masters degree in Social Work (Child and Family). She brings over twenty years of experience working with young children and their families, including Montessori nursery schools, ESL child care, regional subsidized child care, and parent and child therapy. Gabrielle is currently working as a Child and Family Counsellor providing therapeutic support to children and families living with cancer. In addition to teaching at the University of Guelph-Humber, Gabrielle serves as the Field Placement Coordinator for placements one and two in the Early Childhood program. |

| Biography: |
Leo was educated at York University (Canada) and The Institute of Sociology and Anthropology's Centre for European and Mediterranean Studies at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands). In 1980 his graduate research, called “Getting Off: An Anthropological Analysis of Heroin Users”, was published by the Centre for European and Mediterranean Studies.
His social work career includes working with street youth, investigating child sexual and physical abuse for a Children’s Welfare Society, drug and sexuality counselling with youth, community organizing in low-income communities, and directing a community-based mental health agency. Leo was a founding member of the Advocacy Resource Centre for the Handicapped (ARCH), and served in a number of executive board positions including the Chair of Fundraising and eventually was the Chair of ARCH for 5 years. Leo is an active member of the Guelph-Humber community and participates in a number of committees, and was the Chair of Humber College’s Academic Council. Leo continues to act as a resource/consultant to non-profit organizations at both the local and international level.
Leo’s current research interests include community development, poverty reduction strategies, issues in cross cultural practice, macro social work, and the role of legislation in human service delivery.
Besides his current activity at the university, Leo alongside his partner Dr. Sally Humphries, initiated an agricultural development project in Honduras called Investigacion Participativa en Centro America (IPCA) while on sabbatical in 1993. The project was started in three communities – today, IPCA employs eight full-time employees and directly serves over 50 communities in Honduras, acting as a resource to many other NGOs doing agricultural research, poverty reduction, and community development in Honduras. |

Iris Sokoloff received a masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto in 1988. For fourteen years she worked in the area of Children's Mental Health as a family therapist, group facilitator, individual therapist and as an educator. Iris also worked extensively in the area of child sexual abuse, working on an individual and group basis with children, and counseling and educating families. Further, Iris supervised Masters of Social Work students over a ten year period. Iris currently teaches at the University of Guelph-Humber and at Humber College. At the University of Guelph-Humber she teaches counseling and interpersonal communication courses in the Family & Community Social Services Program. At Humber College, she teaches both in the Social Service Worker Program, and in the Advanced Crisis Intervention Program with Continuing Education. Iris also has a private counselling practice in Toronto in which she works with individuals, couples and families. She has been a group facilitator in the Toronto Community for a number of years. |

Dr. Spindel has an M.Ed. (Applied Psychology), and an Ed.D (Sociology) from the University of Toronto. She was a committee member with the O'Sullivan Commission on Advocacy for Vulnerable Adults, was on the Toronto Homes for the Aged Task Force on Advocacy, was a co-founder of the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly, is a former policy advisor, institutional investigator, and systematic advocate for Community Living Ontario, and has long consulted to family and adult protective services organizations in Ontario on how to pressure the government for appropriate support for their loved ones or clients with developmental disabilities. Most recently she was invited to consult to the review of the home care managed competition model chaired by Hon. Elinor Caplan. Dr. Spindel has also done clinical work with children and adolescents with severe emotional and psychiatric disabilities and their families. She was awarded a Government of Canada medal for service to her community, and has also received awards from the Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens Organizations, and concerned friends of Ontario Citizens in care Facilities for her longstanding advocacy work on behalf of older adults in Ontario. |

Prior to joining Humber College he worked as a police officer, probation and parole officer and Human Rights Officer. He has a B.Sc. (Psychology) degree from McMaster University, a Masters degree in Criminology from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from York University. Prior to taking up his current position as Vice-Provost at the University of Guelph-Humber, John has served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Management and Director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Guelph and as acting President and Vice President Academic at Royal Roads University, British Columbia. In addition; he has also held a number of faculty appointments at Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Western Ontario, and Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology.
